Dear FGSD Families,
On Tuesday, November 30th, a senseless act of violence took the lives of four Oxford High School students and injured several others in Oakland County, Michigan. Our hearts go out to those families who are affected by this tragedy as well as the entire community.
We are proud of our community and of our school district. However, we are not immune to problems. Students and families are under a tremendous amount of stress and many students are being affected. Through these first few months of school, we have seen behavioral issues at many of our schools. However, we are working very hard to provide students with resources to help with mental and behavioral health challenges. The district has hired seven additional counselors across the district that are ready and eager to help students in any way possible; whether that’s mentally, behaviorally or academically. Additionally, the district has care coordinators who can help students and families find community resources to help them in their time of need.
Our district staff, administrators and teachers want to partner with parents to care for their students. If you or your student is in need of help, please reach out to your teacher or building administrator. We want to be a partner to you and your student and to help get you the assistance that you might need.
If you or your student hear of anything concerning please share it with someone at your school. Communication and partnership between parents and the school district is the key in proactive, effective solutions for students. Though information may be incomplete or turn out to be just a rumor, it’s always best to err on the side of caution. Or, if you prefer to make an anonymous report, you can do so through Safe Oregon, either by calling, texting or emailing. We will be marketing the Safe Oregon tip line to students in the coming weeks and months.
FGSD families, please reiterate to your students: if something doesn't feel right, tell someone.

Reminder about New Test to Stay Quarantine Protocol
OHA’s Test to Stay protocol allows unvaccinated students without symptoms, who were exposed at school, to keep attending in-person class during their quarantine period when they test negative. Students who have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, will be tested using a rapid test. Parents need to have consented to the student getting a test for the student to participate in this program. If the student tests negative, and is not showing symptoms, they will be allowed to remain in school. They will then be tested again after five days to determine if they continue to be negative. If the student is exposed to COVID outside of school, they will be required to follow the 8-10 (depending on the situation) day quarantine protocol that is currently in place. (Vaccinated students without symptoms are not required to quarantine.)

FGSD Nutrition Services Virtual Photo Contest

FGHS School Based Health Center
We were notified by Virginia Garcia that due to critical staffing shortages in our School-based Health Center program, they will be closing the Forest Grove High School SBHC for in-person visits for 90 days effective November 22nd. Virginia Garcia will continue to provide telehealth visits for the students of the Forest Grove School District for both medical and mental health, and can schedule students for in-person visits at the Cornelius Wellness Center.
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR):
The final opportunity to participate in the district’s We Care Deeply series is Monday, December 6th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This will be the QPR training for anyone wanting to learn how to help a person at risk of suicide. Learn how to identify the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond by following three simple steps. Advance registration required. Further information can be found here. Inclement Weather
During hazardous winter weather conditions, Forest Grove School District administrators drive roads and make decisions on safety of bus travel by 5:00 a.m. Please keep in mind that weather and road conditions can change between the time the roads have been checked and when students are picked up.
Our district covers approximately 200 square miles. Within this area we have about five different weather zones. We may have a road problem in one area and not in others. We have identified roads within specific areas that historically have been affected during snow and ice conditions. Our snow routes include only those buses necessary for valid safety concerns. You will be receiving a snow route chart via U.S. mail in the next few weeks. Please review the chart to see if your student’s bus route is affected. If snow routes are in effect, the district will announce “Full Snow Routes”. When weather conditions affect some bus routes and not others, the district will announce those specific snow routes.
In case of severe weather, school could be cancelled for the day or there could be a two-hour delayed start. With a delayed start, buses pick up students two hours later than the normal time and school starts two hours later than usual. School ends at the regular time.
When severe weather conditions are expected, please check the district website (www.fgsdk12.org) or listen to the radio or TV for school closure on bus route announcements. The announcements usually start at 5:30 a.m. You can also sign up for email notifications through Flash Alert (http://flashalert.net/news.html?id=105). The district office will also post a recorded phone message announcing closures and bus route information (call 503-357-6171).
Education Foundation of Forest Grove Holiday Concert
The EFFG is excited to welcome back Michael Allen Harrison for our Holiday Concert! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we hope to see many of you there.

Food Pantries
The FGHS Food Pantry is open on Mondays from 4-5:30pm. It is in its new location in front of the school by the Basinski Center. Additionally, there is a weekly food pantry located at NAMS each Friday at 3:45pm - 5:45pm.

Recordatorio sobre el nuevo protocolo de prueba para permanecer en cuarentena
El protocolo Test to Stay de OHA permite a los estudiantes no vacunados sin síntomas, que estuvieron expuestos en la escuela, seguir asistiendo a clases presenciales durante el período de cuarentena cuando dan negativo en la prueba.
