Dear FGSD Families,
Welcome back! New beginnings are wonderful. I am excited for a new year of school, as I’m sure many of you are. I am definitely ready for a more predictable routine and the opportunity for our students to dig in and get back to learning.
The beginning of this school year feels a lot more normal than the past couple of years. With regard to COVID, we will be starting this year the same way we ended the past school year. Masks will continue to be optional. Our building protocols will remain the same with a focus on good ventilation and sanitation. If your student is sick or experiencing symptoms, please keep them home. More information is located on the COVID-19 information page of the district website.
State health officials have models that predicting that the number of cases will continue to decline over the next month or so and then start to increase with the onset of colder weather. However, this increase is not predicted to be as high as the peak of cases seen in the spring. This is good news. This will allow our staff to remain focussed on instruction.
Our staff is excited to have students return to school ready to learn. There is a lot of work to be done but we are looking forward to the challenge. Our K-6 grades will be implementing a literacy adoption which will greatly improve instruction and learning.
As one more reminder, the first day of school will be as follows:
- Tuesday, September 6 for grades 7 and 9
- Wednesday, September 7 for grades 1-6, 8 and 10-12
- Friday, September 9 for Pre-K and Kindergarten

Important Information
Meal Services for the New School Year
Due to the expiration of the USDA waivers which allowed for meals to be free for all students, there will be changes to meal service for the new school year. Breakfast will continue to be free for all students. However, lunch will not be free for all students. Please refer to the Nutrition Services page on the district website for full details, whether your student qualifies for free/reduced lunch and general pricing information. If you have further questions, please contact the Nutrition Services Department at 503.359.8110.

¡Bienvenido de nuevo! Los nuevos comienzos son maravillosos. Estoy emocionado por un nuevo año escolar, como estoy seguro que muchos de ustedes lo están. Definitivamente estoy listo para una rutina más predecible y la oportunidad para que nuestros estudiantes profundicen y vuelvan a aprender.
El comienzo de este año escolar se siente mucho más normal que los últimos dos años. Con respecto a COVID, comenzaremos este año de la misma manera que terminamos el año escolar pasado. Servicios de comidas para el nuevo año escolar
