Message from Superintendent Parker -- April 7, 2023

Dear FGSD Families,

I want to provide you an update on several things the district is currently working on with regards to safety and security. Prior to Spring Break, Pat Hess, our Security & Safety Coordinator, and an outside specialist conducted a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) evaluation. This involved a detailed inspection of each of our district buildings and evaluating the overall security. A comprehensive report will be shared with the district in the coming weeks. From that report, the district will implement the recommended adjustments. 

It goes without saying that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. One of the major components of the recent FGSD Bond Campaign was plans for safety and security improvements. With the allocated funds and the CPTED recommendations, the district will look to make improvements in areas such as upgraded security glass, doors, cameras, lighting, and fencing. 

Additionally, we are also in the process of updating our Standard Response Protocols from the I Love You Guys Foundation. There have been changes to the protocols and we will be implementing those changes and materials in the coming months. Pat Hess is also heading up this important effort. 

Let me reiterate that the safety and security of our students and staff is paramount! I will continue to provide updates on the progress of the work outlined above.

Bond Update

Work on the district’s bond plans continue to progress. The following items are what is on the near horizon:

• Board approval of Construction Management/General Contractor Services Contract for the new Cornelius Elementary School – April 10th
• Bond Oversight Committee will have their first meeting on Monday, April 10th
• Design Advisory Group Meeting #4 – April 12th
• Roofing projects to start for Tom McCall, Fern Hill, OGA (Gales Creek), FGHS, CALC

Kindergarten Roundup

Kindergarten and Pre-K registration is right around the corner. If your child will be turning five (three for Pre-K) before September 1, 2023 then you can register them. Be sure to bring proof of address, a copy of immunization records, and birth certificate with you on registration day.

Forest Grove Committee for Community Involvement

The City of Forest Grove and the Committee for Community Involvement will hold their Annual Town Meeting on April 29th from 10am-12pm in the Civic Auditorium. It will be an open house style meeting. Come learn what's in the future plans for parks & recreation, roads, schools, businesses and housing. This is your chance to ask questions, get informed and meet community members.  

Virginia Garcia Career Fair

They will have representation from more than 15 departments within VG, providing upcoming graduates with information and opportunities about careers in more than just health care. They will be able to find out about jobs in:

Behavioral Health and Wellness

Behavioral Health and Wellness staff members Cassie Kenney, Kristina Meinecke, Kelsey Kaul, Hanna Thompson, and Karina Lopez provided some great information at the February 27, 2023 school board meeting on the ways the Behavioral Health and Wellness Teams are working to provide effective services to students.
