Dear FGSD families,
On Monday, August 10th, district staff will present the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) mandated “Blueprints” to the School Board. These broad plans outline how each school will implement both the Hybrid and Comprehensive Distance Learning guidelines provided by ODE. Additionally, district staff will be sharing with the Board how a student’s day, at each level, will look like during Comprehensive Distance Learning. This will give an overview of what families can expect when school begins in the fall. All who wish to attend the School Board meeting can register to attend via Zoom video call. There will also be a live stream of the meeting available on the FGSD’s YouTube channel.
As we communicated last week, with school starting in Comprehensive Distance Learning, we are recommending to the Board on Monday night that the first day of school be pushed back from September 8th to September 14th. This is being done to allow district staff to train in the various new technology systems which are being implemented for better staff/student/parent interaction. Staff will also use this additional time to personally connect with all families, answer questions, share what to expect for the new year and to let your students know even though school may be different they are excited to begin the school year and look forward to getting started.

As we near the beginning of the new school year, I know there is a lot of anxiety surrounding how our students will be successful in this distance learning environment. While this is not the preferred model for instruction and learning, I do have great confidence in our district staff and our students. I know how much our staff care for your students and that they want them to succeed. As we partner together in this new environment of learning, I want to assure you that we will do everything we can to meet the needs of all students. My hope is that in the near future, we will be in a safer position to move into an in-person model for school.

- Through communication with district staff and many community members, we know that childcare is a critical need for so many families in our district. We are working with community partners to create opportunities for more childcare options. If you are interested in potential childcare opportunities, please take a few minutes to fill out this brief survey.
- A message from the Director of Student Services to our families of students who experience disability.
- We have heard from many district families that there is a need for dedicated learning spaces at home and wondered if there were desks available. To meet this need, the district has expedited the surplus of many older student desks, tables and chairs that have been in storage and are no longer needed. These items will be made available, free of charge, for any family or community member that is in need of a student desk to support online learning this year. Pick up details are as follows:

Estimadas familias del Distrito Escolar de Forest Grove:
El lunes 10 de agosto, el personal del distrito presentará los “planos” del Departamento de Educación de Oregon (ODE) a nuestro Consejo Escolar. Estos planes generales resumen la manera en que cada escuela implementará las pautas de aprendizaje de ambos modelos: el Modelo Integral de aprendizaje a distancia y el Modelo híbrido, proporcionados por el Departamento de Educación de Oregon. El personal del distrito también compartirá con el Consejo cómo será un día de clases de un estudiante, en cada nivel, durante el modelo Integral de aprendizaje a distancia. Esto ayudará a que las familias tengan una perspectiva de lo que pueden esperar cuando las clases comiencen en el otoño. Las personas que deseen asistir a la reunión del Consejo Escolar pueden registrarse para asistir a través de una videollamada por Zoom. También tendremos disponible una transmisión en vivo de la reunión a través del canal de YouTube de FGSD.
Debido a que el inicio de clases será mediante el Modelo integral de aprendizaje a distancia, como lo comunicamos la semana pasada, el lunes por la noche recomendaremos al Consejo que el primer día de clases sea el 14 de septiembre en lugar del 8. Este cambio se hace con la finalidad de que el personal del distrito reciba capacitación en los nuevos sistemas de tecnología que se implementarán para mejorar la interacción entre el personal, los estudiantes y los padres de familia. El personal también utilizará este tiempo adicional para comunicarse con todas las familias, responder a preguntas, compartir las expectativas para el nuevo año e informar a sus estudiantes que, aunque las clases serán diferentes, estamos entusiasmados de comenzar un nuevo ciclo escolar y que esperamos ansiosamente el comienzo del mismo.
Seguiremos comunicando las últimas novedades en las próximas semanas. El siguiente mensaje a la comunidad será el jueves 13 de agosto.
El comienzo del año escolar se aproxima cada vez más y sé que las familias sienten incertidumbre de cómo sus hijos lograrán tener éxito en este entorno de aprendizaje a distancia. Aunque este no es el modelo de enseñanza y aprendizaje preferido, tengo mucha confianza en nuestro personal y en nuestros estudiantes. Sé lo mucho que el personal se preocupa por sus alumnos y que lo único que desean es que tengan éxito. Mientras nos acoplamos a este nuevo ambiente, quiero asegurarles que haremos todo de nuestra parte para satisfacer las necesidades de cada uno. Mi esperanza es que, en un futuro cercano, estemos en una posición más segura para iniciar un modelo de enseñanza presencial.

- Luego de comunicarnos con el personal del distrito y muchos miembros de la comunidad, nos enteramos que el cuidado de niños es una necesidad crítica para muchas familias en nuestro distrito. Estamos colaborando con agrupaciones locales para crear más opciones accesibles de cuidado infantil. Si está interesado en recibir información sobre estas opciones potenciales de cuidado de niños, por favor tome unos minutos para contestar esta breve encuesta.

- Nos hemos enterado que muchas familias del distrito se han visto en la necesidad de proveer espacios para que sus hijos realicen las actividades de aprendizaje en casa y nos preguntaron si el distrito cuenta con escritorios disponibles. Para satisfacer esta necesidad, el distrito ha puesto a disposición mobiliario extra que consta de sillas, mesas y escritorios viejos que han estado almacenados y ya no se necesitan. Estos artículos se pondrán a disposición, de forma gratuita, para cualquier familia o miembro de la comunidad que necesite un escritorio para que su hijo lo utilice durante este periodo de aprendizaje.
