Dear FGSD Parents,
We are truly saddened by the week’s events surrounding the act of violence perpetrated against Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. We hurt for those who are affected by this and other similar events that have taken place over the recent months and years. We continue to desire that our students and staff, especially those of color, to feel welcome while in our schools and in our community. We desire our students to receive the quality education they deserve in an environment of acceptance and safety, where diversity is celebrated and not derided. We will continue to work for progress in our schools and community.
As we near the beginning of the new school year (September 14, 2020) we want to continue to update you on key information:
New learning platform
Feedback from parents and teachers has shown that there is a need for a comprehensive, district wide digital learning tool. FGSD has chosen Canvas as that tool and will be implemented starting in the fall. You can learn more about this tool through the Canvas website and can review staff presentations to the School Board and in parent Q&A sessions, on how the tool will be used on the district website.
Visiting school buildings
To ensure the safety of staff, students and the community, we strongly encourage you to limit your in-person interactions at the school buildings. If you need to meet with school principals or staff, please contact the school office to schedule a meeting. We will be conducting as many meetings as possible through Zoom video conferencing or over the phone. If you plan to attend a meeting at a building, please be prepared to wear a mask, sanitize and stay six feet apart.
Childcare
The district has partnered with Champions, a local childcare provider, who is offering full day childcare for FGSD staff and the community. If you are interested in enrolling your child/children, please visit their website to enroll. The FGSD childcare sites will be at Fern Hill and Tom McCall. The approximate cost per child, per week is $238, with a discount for multiple children from a family. There are also subsidy programs for childcare with certain qualifications. Technology/Device Distribution
If your student does not have a device and you would like to check one out from the district, please fill out this form. Individual schools will then be scheduling times for families to pick up requested devices at schools prior to the beginning of the school year. These pick up times will be set and communicated by the individual school buildings. It will be similar to how it was done in the Spring -- drive-thru style.
School Supplies
Each year, the district works with community partners to gather donated school supplies. These supplies are then distributed to the individual schools for distribution to those students and families who are in need. Look for communication from individual schools on when supplies will be distributed.

Visitar edificios escolares
