Dear FGSD Families,
In the wake of events over the past few days, I want to assure you that since my arrival in the Forest Grove School District, the one thing that has become abundantly clear to me, is that we care. We care about our community. We care about our students. We care about our families. Our staff will continue to build relationships, affirm student identity, and work to address their individual needs. I believe that we will get through these difficult circumstances together.
The recent announcement from Governor Brown now provides districts with more flexibility on returning students to in-person instruction. We are continuing to work through the logistics and closely consulting with the Washington County Health Authority to create plans for a measured and safe return. Additional information from the state level is expected to be communicated with districts on January 19th. This information is anticipated to include changes to the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance around cohorting, the overall “advisory” health metrics and the prioritization of educators in the vaccine rollout. We will continue to keep you updated as this information is made available.
At this time, we are beginning to make arrangements to bring a few small groups of students back to the buildings for Limited In Person Instruction (LIPI). This will consist of a small number of students: students with disabilities, emerging bilingual students and students without reliable internet connectivity. As these plans are finalized and put into action, those families will be contacted directly. Simultaneously, we continue to move forward on implementing logistical plans to be ready for when we can safely increase the number of students receiving in-person instruction.

Important Information
Child Care
At this time, the Washington County Child Care grant has expired. We are currently working through determining what level of support we can continue to offer to our families who are in need of childcare and comprehensive Distance Learning Support in the new calendar year. As soon as we work through the new logistics, we will notify the community. Communication should go out in the next week or so.
Safe Routes to Schools
The City of Forest Grove has been awarded grant money from the Oregon Department of Transportation to add sidewalks near NAMS and Fern Hill. This will allow students who live close to these buildings the opportunity to walk to school.

A raíz de los acontecimientos de los últimos días, quiero asegurarles que desde mi llegada al Distrito Escolar de Forest Grove, lo único que me ha quedado muy claro es que nos preocupamos. Nos preocupamos por nuestra comunidad. Nos preocupamos por nuestros estudiantes. Nos preocupamos por nuestras familias. Nuestro personal continuará construyendo relaciones, afirmando la identidad de los estudiantes y trabajando para abordar sus necesidades individuales. Creo que superaremos juntos estas difíciles circunstancias.
El reciente anuncio del gobernador Brown ahora brinda a los distritos más flexibilidad para que los estudiantes regresen a la instrucción en persona. Cuidado de los niños
En este momento, la subvención de cuidado infantil del condado de Washington ha expirado. Actualmente estamos trabajando para determinar qué nivel de apoyo podemos seguir ofreciendo a nuestras familias que necesitan cuidado infantil y apoyo integral de aprendizaje a distancia en el nuevo año calendario. Tan pronto como trabajemos en la nueva logística, notificaremos a la comunidad. La comunicación debería salir dentro de la próxima semana más o menos.
Rutas seguras a las escuelas
La Ciudad de Forest Grove recibió una subvención del Departamento de Transporte de Oregon para agregar aceras cerca de NAMS y Fern Hill. Esto permitirá a los estudiantes que viven cerca de estos edificios la oportunidad de caminar hasta la escuela.
