Dear FGSD Families,
We hope everyone had an enjoyable Veterans Day yesterday. If you did not have the chance to view the video produced by the Forest Grove High School’s Social Studies department I highly recommend that you take a look. It reviews the history of how Veterans Day came to be and honors those in our community who served.
Today I am sharing two important pieces of information with you. First, will be the results from the survey that was sent out earlier this week regarding the potential district calendar change. Second, is information centered around the optional opportunity to participate in COVID-19 vaccination events.
Calendar Change
At the November 8, 2021 school board meeting, a discussion was conducted regarding the possibility of changing November 22nd and 23rd from student contact days to non-student contact days. This issue was brought to the attention of the school board by a group of teachers who expressed concern over the loss of lesson preparation and planning time due to the statewide shortage of substitute teachers.
This was a tough decision. It is critical that our students be in the classroom learning. However, we know that our staff is exhausted and in need of additional preparation time.
Today the School Board met in a special session to discuss this topic and review the survey data. The decision of the School Board was to keep the district calendar as is with November 22 and 23 remaining as student contact days. They are still concerned about staff workload, student and parent burnout, and asked for an upcoming work session to be held discussing these issues.
To reiterate, November 22 and 23 will remain student contact days.
Vaccination Clinic Opportunities
The district is working with Washington County Health to provide opportunities for families who wish to have their students, ages 5-12, receive the COVID-19 vaccination. This is completely voluntary and is not being mandated by the school district. A parent/guardian MUST be present in order for students to be vaccinated.
Initially, there will be two opportunities to participate. The first opportunity will be at Echo Shaw Elementary School on Thursday, November 18. The second opportunity will be at Cornelius Elementary School on Wednesday, November 24.
To sign up for either of these locations please register below. You will need to provide your first, second and third choice of times. Every effort will be made to schedule your student(s) at the time you prefer.

PAX Tools is a collection of evidence-based, trauma informed strategies to improve cooperation and self-regulation with elementary school aged youth. PAX Tools draws on decades of science to create strategies that support parents, youth workers, and other caring adults to create a nurturing environment that ultimately helps kids thrive. Advance registration is required- only need to sign up for one session.

Inclement Weather
During hazardous winter weather conditions, Forest Grove School District administrators drive roads and make decisions on safety of bus travel by 5:00 a.m. Please keep in mind that weather and road conditions can change between the time the roads have been checked and when students are picked up.
Our district covers approximately 200 square miles. Within this area we have about five different weather zones. We may have a road problem in one area and not in others. We have identified roads within specific areas that historically have been affected during snow and ice conditions. Our snow routes include only those buses necessary for valid safety concerns. You will be receiving a snow route chart via U.S. mail in the next few weeks. Please review the chart to see if your student’s bus route is affected. If snow routes are in effect, the district will announce “Full Snow Routes”. When weather conditions affect some bus routes and not others, the district will announce those specific snow routes.
In case of severe weather, school could be cancelled for the day or there could be a two-hour delayed start. With a delayed start, buses pick up students two hours later than the normal time and school starts two hours later than usual. School ends at the regular time.
When severe weather conditions are expected, please check the district website (www.fgsdk12.org) or listen to the radio or TV for school closure on bus route announcements. The announcements usually start at 5:30 a.m. You can also sign up for email notifications through Flash Alert (http://flashalert.net/news.html?id=105). The district office will also post a recorded phone message announcing closures and bus route information (call 503-357-6171).
Education Foundation of Forest Grove Holiday Concert
The EFFG is excited to welcome back Michael Allen Harrison for our Holiday Concert! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we hope to see many of you there.

Food Pantries
The FGHS Food Pantry is open on Mondays from 4-5:30pm. It is in its new location in front of the school by the Basinski Center. Additionally, there is a weekly food pantry located at NAMS each Friday at 3:45pm - 5:45pm.
COVID-19 Dashboard
The district is tracking the number of positive cases we have throughout the district. This is a real time compilation of all of the cases districtwide broken down by building. This list is updated every Friday.

Cambio de calendario

Oportunidades en clínicas de vacunación
