Dear FGSD Families:
We have been enjoying the continued summer-like weather but it is beginning to feel like fall. Schools are bustling with activity and our students are getting outside for many activities and sporting events. These activities remind us what it is like to be back in schools together and appreciating things we might have taken for granted before the pandemic.
Last week, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) released the results of statewide data for all school districts. The vast majority of districts throughout the state showed results that are below where they were prior to the pandemic, and our district was no exception. We are not satisfied with these results.
Improving instruction and overcoming the learning loss caused by the pandemic are our district’s top priority for this school year. We did see a bright spot when comparing our district benchmark assessments in reading and in math to performance levels in the Fall to their Spring performance levels. We want to build on that momentum this year and ensure that our students get back on track.
As a district, we are optimistic that this school year’s instruction will not be interrupted like it was last year. In the first four weeks of school, we have not seen significant illness for our teachers or students. With our students being in the classroom receiving instruction in-person, they will receive impactful core instruction and effective tiered levels of support in reading, writing and math to accelerate learning. Our goal is to offset the academic effects of the pandemic by spring of this school year.
Bond
The Forest Grove School District has a great history of passing bonds with the support of our wonderful community. The district passed a bond in 2000 and again in 2010. In the latest bond, the district was able to complete several large projects and provide vital building upkeep.
- A new Joseph Gale Elementary was built
- The new science wing was added at FGHS
- New cafeterias were constructed at Harvey Clarke and Echo Shaw Elementary schools
- The science rooms at NAMS were renovated
- Deferred maintenance at all schools
The district knows how important these bond funds are and that they come from our trusted community members. Because of that knowledge, the district uses these funds with integrity and strives to stretch the funds to accomplish the projects listed above and beyond. In fact, with interest earned from the original 2010 bond funds, the district has continued to fund projects in 2021 and 2022. This example of fiscal responsibility and making funds work for the benefit of the students and staff is how the district will continue to handle bond funds in the future.
We are excited for this opportunity to improve the safety and security of our district buildings, repair and update our aging school buildings and expand hands-on learning and student opportunities. Working together, we can continue to make the Forest Grove School District a safe and welcoming place to learn and grow.
Neil Armstrong Middle School Creating a Positive, Supportive School Environment
Principal Juliana Kelly shares, "... since our building's foundation is strong, we are working to tell the story of who we are as Titans. Throughout our building we have adorned on our walls with reminders for students to be kind and that they are valued." Here are some examples:
National Hispanic American Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month, where we take time to recognize the achievements and contributions of generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Behavior/Mental Health and Wellness Resources

Virginia Garcia Vaccination Opportunities (FREE)
Beginning 10/3 Virginia Garcia will administer Flu vaccines at their 232 SE 7th Avenue, Hillsboro location. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 8am-5pm. Additionally, a Saturday Flu clinic will be held on 10/15 (9am-2pm) and is open to all ages of the community. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcomed. Appointments can be scheduled on their website.
Services offered are: COVID Vax, COVID testing & treatment, Flu vax and MPOX vax.

Hemos estado disfrutando del clima continuo de verano, pero comienza a sentirse como otoño. Las escuelas están llenas de actividad y nuestros estudiantes están saliendo para muchas actividades y eventos deportivos. Estas actividades nos recuerdan lo que es estar juntos de regreso en las escuelas y apreciar las cosas que podríamos haber dado por sentadas antes de la pandemia.
La semana pasada, el Departamento de Educación de Oregón (ODE) publicó los resultados de los datos estatales para todos los distritos escolares. La gran mayoría de los distritos en todo el estado mostraron resultados inferiores a los que tenían antes de la pandemia, y nuestro distrito no fue la excepción. No estamos satisfechos con estos resultados.
Mejorar la instrucción y superar la pérdida de aprendizaje causada por la pandemia son las principales prioridades de nuestro distrito para este año escolar. Vimos un punto brillante al comparar las evaluaciones comparativas de nuestro distrito en lectura y matemáticas con los niveles de desempeño en el otoño con sus niveles de desempeño en la primavera. Queremos aprovechar ese impulso este año y asegurarnos de que nuestros estudiantes vuelvan a la normalidad.
Como distrito, somos optimistas de que la instrucción de este año escolar no se interrumpirá como ocurrió el año pasado. En las primeras cuatro semanas de clases, no hemos visto enfermedades significativas para nuestros maestros o estudiantes. Con nuestros estudiantes en el salón de clases recibiendo instrucción en persona, recibirán instrucción básica impactante y niveles efectivos de apoyo en lectura, escritura y matemáticas para acelerar el aprendizaje. Nuestro objetivo es compensar los efectos académicos de la pandemia para la primavera de este año escolar.

El Distrito Escolar de Forest Grove tiene una gran historia de aprobar bonos con el apoyo de nuestra maravillosa comunidad. El distrito aprobó un bono en 2000 y nuevamente en 2010. En el último bono, el distrito pudo completar varios proyectos grandes y brindar un mantenimiento vital al edificio.

Debido a ese conocimiento, el distrito usa estos fondos con integridad y se esfuerza por estirar los fondos para lograr los proyectos mencionados anteriormente y más allá. De hecho, con los intereses obtenidos de los fondos de bonos originales de 2010, el distrito ha seguido financiando proyectos en 2021 y 2022. Este ejemplo de responsabilidad fiscal y hacer que los fondos funcionen para el beneficio de los estudiantes y el personal es la forma en que el distrito continuará manejando fondos de bonos en el futuro.
Estamos entusiasmados por esta oportunidad de mejorar la seguridad de los edificios de nuestro distrito, reparar y actualizar nuestros edificios escolares antiguos y ampliar el aprendizaje práctico y las oportunidades para los estudiantes. Recursos de comportamiento/salud mental y bienestar

Virginia García Oportunidades de Vacunación (GRATIS)
A partir del 3 de octubre , Virginia García administrará vacunas contra la influenza en su ubicación de 232 SE 7th Avenue, Hillsboro. El horario regular es de lunes a viernes de 8 am a 5 pm. Además, se llevará a cabo una clínica de influenza los sábados el 15/10 (9 am a 2 pm) y está abierta a todas las edades de la comunidad.
